Wednesday at Holy Cross

We started Wednesday with clouds...
but it didn't stop the early morning crew from watching the skies.

After another great breakfast of eggs with ham, pureed black beans and fry jacks we all headed different directions.
Mr. Bob worked on data entry...
Jean finally got some blog published!!!
Wayne crunched height and weight numbers...
Holly tutored one on one...
Jan and Camille worked on last minute details of their workshop...
Denise continued work on the ground prep for the playground equipmentand the heights and weight team finished all the classes---what a crew!! And Mr. John keep the volunteer machine oiled and running smoothly.

It was fish day at lunch and afterward folks switched out some jobs....

Robert, Doug and Wayne redid nails on a railing. A prior volunteer group had drilled the entire length of the nails and consequently there was nothing holding them in....so our guys added one more nail to each board on the railing. The wood is incredibly hard and frequently the drills end up smoking before you get finished. Then the next problem is to get the nails all the way in without bending....not an easy task!
Anna scrubbed wall in preparation for paint tomorrow...
Holly continued tutoring...
Jean continued on the blog...

Mr. Bob became the percentage king of Standard VI girls...
Doug worked on plans for shelving in the Sewing Center while Joanne worked with the ladies (see separate blog regarding the Sewing Group)...
and after the walls were scrubbed, Anna did a little more tutoring...the girl's unstoppable!
The students got out early today so a lot of the work wrapped up early too.
Wayne enjoyed a little R&R before joining others heading back to Ruby's with various stops for refreshments.
Bob and Holly heading over the bridge...

and all the teachers came to the computer room for the Jan and Camille Workshop!
Jan started them off with some small group planning activities...
Then one where they had a different role in the group taped to their head. The trick was they didn't know what that role was but everyone else did. Illustrated very well how awkward group situations can be.
Then it was Camille's turn and she started with some morning board work. The question was..."use five 8's to make nine (you can only use 5)". Paired discussion to solve the question...try this on your own. The answer will be somewhere in the blog later. Then continued with manipulative materials for math work of all grades (they each had bags so they could do the work handson)....that was really fun!! Then on to centers and things to do when kids got finished early. She had lots of handout ideas and resources that are available right here in the school! It was a great workshop--hopefully they know how lucky they are to have those two highly skilled teachers sharing their knowledge.

Jan headed off for a home visit and Jean and Camille headed back to Ruby's. After a little R&R and shower time we had Night Prayers from the New Zealand Prayer Book and then headed north for dinner...
Tapas and Sangria at the Red Ginger....yummy! Then off to Dande's for ice cream a Cele's bar for the Duke Carolina game! Very good days' work!!!
